Turn on the television, walk the streets of your city, or speak with the young people in your churches youth group and you will soon realize that this young generation is in crisis. They are searching for truth, bound by sin, and growing up in troubled homes. There are numerous problems including violence, homosexuality, drugs, depression, broken homes, suicide, and much more. There is a hopelessness and despair amidst our young people.
Websters Online Dictionary defines
a crisis as: "an unstable or crucial time or state of affairs in which a decisive change is impending or a situation that has reached a critical phase." Truly the spiritual state of our young people has reached a critical phase. There must be decisive action among Christians to reach the young people. It is never to late for change until we die. Every Christian alive in America at this moment can make a difference and help reach this lost generation.
Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel,
because he has come and has redeemed his people. He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David (as he said through his holy prophets of long ago), salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us— to show mercy to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant, the oath he swore to our father Abraham: to rescue us from the hand of our enemies, and to enable us to serve him without fear in holiness and righteousness before him all our days. And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him, to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace." Luke 1: 68-79
Jesus came to rescue us from our enemies and redeem us from sin. After Jesus set us free on the cross and rose again He gave us the Great Commission in Mark 16:15 "Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel." We have the answer this generation is looking and we must reach them.
Rescue workers do not go on a search until they realize someone is lost. The American church must realize that this generation is lost and it's time for a rescue effort. There is a crisis taking place with our young people, but it is not to late. Jesus came to rescue them and we are His rescue workers. It's time we join the rescue effort and throw out the lifeline to this drowning generation. We must rescue the perishing!
